Date Night

Easy Valentine Day Dessert Table

We’re really not Valentine Day celebrators in our house, horrible huh?! We usually celebrate a few days before or after so we beat the crazy crowds and the hiked up prices but this year I wanted to do something that included Brielle. I had grand visions of a darling Valentine’s Day tea party with tiny sandwiches and garnishes cut out into mini hearts but somehow life got the better of me and suddenly I realized that Valentine’s Day was in THREE days! So the magnificent tea party was scrapped and we all enjoyed a mini Valentine celebration while we watched the Valentine episode of Vamperina. Haha, you know you’re a parent when you’re combining Valentine’s Day with Disney Junior. I kept it super simple with red velvet cupcakes, sparkling cider and strawberries, ya know for a bit of healthy eating. You can’t have Valentine’s Day without roses so I incorporated them into my strawberry tower, put the rest into a vase, and grabbed some of my regular decorations to mix in. I couldn’t let go of the mini heart garnish though so I stuck them on the rims of the glasses instead….woot, compromise!

I have a funny story of those roses though. Brielle grabbed a few, plucked off all the petals and the next thing I know she’s carted them off into her bath. It was so funny seeing this bizarre combination of rose petals floating on the water along with her Fisher Price princesses and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse figurines. Haha, I seriously love the preschool stage! However, I do NOT love that now we have 23 Valentine gifts to create and give out! Well, I better go finish said gifts! ūüėČ

Pink & Ivory Pumpkin Party

I had the amazing opportunity to throw a party for Everyday Parties Magazine for their fall issue, coming soon so keep your eyes out! Every year¬†I struggle with how to fill the space between the 4th of July and October 1. I want to put away the¬†bright colors of summer but burnt oranges and reds just seem too strong for August and September. Since fall is my favorite season I want that fall feeling as long as possible so I thought bringing in some softer colors of blush pink, ivory and rose gold would¬†help balance this warm weather while the various¬†pumpkin accents, gold pieces, and¬†dark wood tones to ground it all would¬†say, “Ah…hello Autumn!”¬†

Scott and I had a fun date last night. I put this in his car the night before, hanging on his mirror, as his invitation and hint of what we’d be doing. It was pretty easy to make, the balloon is plastic and I got it from Hobby Lobby as well as the basket that I just cut the handles off and sewed string into the basket and attached it to the balloon. Then I got scrapbook material for the decorations and glitter for the letters. And because no Wizard of Oz theme would be complete without Poppies…I got those at Hobby Lobby too.
