I knew I wanted to call the cupcakes at the “One”der the Sea Party crab cakes but it was so expensive to buy individual crab toppers and I’m not skilled in any way with fondant so I thought this would work best. I used my Cricut to cut out these crabs. The cartridge was Life’s a Beach and I cut them to be 3 inches. After I just drew on the details, did a lot of hole punching for the one crab’s cheeks and taped them to lollipop sticks.
The other craft my mom and I’ve been working on are these fish bean bags. I found the tutorial HERE. We made a few adjustments though. We added an inch on the bottom of the scales so they were easier for us to sew them on. We also ended up tacking the scales down so they lie flat. I think it’s just a personal preference though. We also didn’t cut out each piece and then piece them together to sew. We cut out one side, pieced it and then sewed it onto the same fabric rectangle. Then we cut out the other side from the rectangle. It was a lot easier for us. If you’re a comfortable seamstress I’m sure it’d be easy to do it the way she suggests but I’m anything but! She also recommends using a fat quarter but we used quite a bit less than that.
After they were sewn we fulled their noses and fins with batting and then used rice to fill the body. Added some more batting to the bottom of the tail to give it some fluff and they were done! Once we got our system of what worked best for us we were able to get 6 of them done in 3 hours. Again, I’m sure if you’re comfortable with sewing it wouldn’t take that long but I think they turned out so so cute though!!
